David Sloat is a Eagle Scout from Ludlow (MA) Boy Scout Troop 182. Troop 1980 Tales is "a collection of 11 short stories about Scouts set in the mid 1980s. The standalone stories focus on various adventures in the scouting career of a group of boys over a two-year period. “One of the many wonderful things about Quest Camp Thunderbird is that we serve a variety of developmental disabilities, so anyone is welcome out here at Camp Thunderbird,” said Faye Murphy, the camp’s director. And they have something for just about anybody, including special areas built over the years by Apopka Scout Troop 10. ... Scoutmaster Filip Edstrom says the troop has been working with Camp Thunderbird for 12 years now, helping to build better and brighter space for campers, and he says the Scouts have fun along the way too. “It’s been actually a great experience for us to work with the camp and have the kids see what’s going on and create all these cool projects,” Edstrom said. Projects that still excite and motivate Scouts like Everyday Hero Gabe Farr, who wants to keep helping others by way of volunteering his time. “It makes me feel good, gives you extra stuff that you maybe want to do that you don’t normally do,” Farr said. Switzerland, France, Italy... The trip was the last Scouts adventure for Natalie, who will be a freshman this fall at Cal Poly SLO. While she loved the canyoning, mountain tubing and backpacking, she said one of the best parts of the trip was staying up late with her friends and talking to locals on one of their nightly gelato runs. “What I enjoy most about Scouts is the amount of activities you are able to do which you would not have done otherwise. Also how close you become bonded to the people you have shared these experiences with,” Natalie said. “Scouting is scout-led so we get the experience and freedom of planning all of our trips.” Scout salute! Update 7/21/2025: Libbie Oliver, the owner of the 42ft S/V Amokura, is suing the Boy Scouts of America, claiming that a child was allowed to steer the vessel at the time the accident occurred, according to a lawsuit filed in V.I. Superior Court on Thursday. "Oliver chartered the vessel to the Boy Scouts of America for use in the Sea Base summer sailing program in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2023, and the Boy Scouts organization recommended a captain and insurance policy, according to the complaint. " Attorney C. Jacob Gower is representing the plaintiff, Libbie Oliver who is a resident of the British Virgin Islands. Yes I'm sure. Just trying to find the scouter who put together a list. Likely some of the camps don't exist and the number of MBs is different.
