I copied/ stole this from www.boyscouttrail.com

I did not write it, I do not claim any responcibility for it either.

I just thought it was cool:

So, the next time my pack is planning something, and when we decide that "we did that before already" about an idea, I'll remember this blog.

Sure, I might have done "it" a few times, you might have done "it" a few times, but some of the boys will be doing "it" for the very first time.

And the boys are the reason we do "it".

I saw that same story the other night and started thinking not only about the troop, but even our family trips to Oklahoma. We usually have 2 or 3 preset stops along the way, and we have other places we go out of our way to go to just because of their exclusiveness. It definitely becomes tradition and everyone looks forward to those stops! It's still fun to watch 50-60 boy scouts walk into a Phillips 66 just inside the Oklahoma border, convenience store/truck stop on one side casino on the other side. Definitely have to do multiple head checks before leaving!

When I took a trip to western South Dakota to visit the Black Hills, on my list to visit were such must see places as Badlands NP, Wind Cave NP, Jewel Cave NM, Mt. Rushmore NM, and Devils Tower NM.

Also on my list of must sees were Wall Drug and the Corn Palace. Had I known about it earlier, I would have made time to visit the Spam museum in Minnesota on the way out.

There's only so much serious culture, history and natural history one can take on one trip.

But now, with great thanks to Scoutfish, I can classify these visits as a visit to pure Americana, and that just makes the visits that much better.

BTW - I visited the first McDonalds (if by the 1st you mean the one in Des Plaines, IL and not the California restaurant of the brothers McDonald) for the first time last year. Lived near it pretty much all my life, yet somehow got around to visiting the first KFC before I visited the first McDonalds. All I can say is that's 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

SPAM MUSEUM! You missed it????

My daughter and I had just taken the trip around Lake Superior and she was reading brochures on MN in the car and said she wanted to go there. Like it was 250 miles out of the way. Hey, it's my daughter, of course we're going there. :)

It was worth the side trip. VERY nice and it's not just a blow through, it'll take some time with a load of boys.

Oops, forgot to mention. Our fall camporee is going to be an Iron Chef weekend. Every patrol is to put up their best recipe in the competition. You guessed it, it has to have SPAM in it!

While Hayward WI has this great statue of a huge muskie, a town in my area has this huge sunfish. There's just something wrong about that! Why can't we get a nice big predator fish instead of a yuppie guppy? My town has a huge 20' Indian. Man!, does that ever draw in the tourists! :)

I'm thinking it's kinda like a car accident. You don't want to look, but you just gotta.
