Spring camporee ideas please

Recommended Posts

My troop is responsible for hosting our district Spring Camporee. They have decided on a Medieval Theme. They would also like to have competition stations, similar to a Klondike, rather than all demonstration stations. Could you share your unique station ideas? We would like to have this be something other than the run of the mill competitions. thanks in advance.

Sword fights, jousting, pull sword from rock. Lets see make into patrol activity. Sword fight with pool noodles with baseball helmets with the face shields winding up not allowed. Jousting piggyback race with man up with lance to catch hoop off a stand make it a timed relay race or just top team. pour sword into fake rock gimmick it so can be pulled out occasionally . make crossbows to shoot marshmallows at 2litre bottles

Lisa,

When I was a cub (Early 70's) I recall a catapult contests for one of our district outings at Camp Belzer. There were two categories- one with all natural materials, the other with man made materials (Lots of garage door springs!) These were made before camp and the competition was done later in the day after the other station competition activities. It was held in a large field at camp.

You might want to think about whether this can be done safely at your camp, or think of a safer version.

Have fun with it!

Steve

Hi Lisa365,

Ram rod contest. Scouts compete to break open a castle door with a log. The castle door can be two vertically standing reenforced 4 by 8 sheets of 5/8 ply. They can be secured by a two by four bolt (which will break).

Robin Hood and Friar tuck competition. Boys stand on beam or log over shallow brook or pond or creek or puddle. Scouts have shafts of pvc padded with foam. Helmets would be wise. The object is to knock the opponent into the water. Very fun.

Archery competition of course ala Robin Hood.

Spear throwing/ tomahawk or hatchet throwing.

Climbing competition using rope netting over a wall (general medieval obstacle course.)

Turkey drumstick eating contest. First one to complete their drumstick wins the serving wench (girl scout) for a night.

For a religious component - have the scouts stand vigil for a period of time maintaining absolute silence.

Make torches for night-time ceremony. Bon Fire lighting. Just don't sing German songs extolling the virtues of the Fhrer!

Rope swinging over ravine.

Catapult firing competition.

Arrow making.

Make Campfire bread.

Make Sausage.

Make Sour Kraut .

Roast a sow or a lamb or turkey drumsticks.

Make uniforms from burlap sacks and tell the scouts that they are lowly serfs until they earn the mantel of Knighthood.

Crawl through a marshy area getting the scouts really mucky. Theyll get the lower caste medieval serf-thing real fast.

Have fun.

Pappy

And be sure the Leader of the Campfire has a sceptre, take either a newel post or a bastrade, which ever you can afford and decorate it up. Works great.

maybe do the thing with the 55 gallon drum hung up on four ropes and see how long the patrols "knight" can remain on his steed

Our Pack built a trebuchet a couple of years ago. We used it to throw water balloons.

How cool would it be to have a water balloon war? Have opposing teams trowing water ballons at each others castle.

Each castle would have a target area, say after 5 hits, the castle is destroyed.

The trebuchet we built stands approx. 4 ft tall, has a 7 ft arm and will throw a softball approx 50+ yards.
