Keeping my tent from blowing away!

Ok, we're good with the rain at this point. However, the tent I'll be using tonight IS a large cabin tent. I'd like to use the small one, but all 3 of my sons are coming along. Winds will be 15 - 20 mph all weekend. Is there anything to do other than tie out every attachment point I can find?

Double-stake each loop. That means, put two stakes in each loop, slanted in different directions. Plus, as you said, tie out each attachment point. It's probably not going to blow away, with your family weighting it down. A bigger concern is poles snapping, but our cheap Taj Mahal style family tent has survived 15-20mph winds with no problem. Come Sunday, you will be laughing at the adventure.

Look where you are pitching it. Pitch it down wind of a smaller more wind resistant dome tent. Double stake and do not pitch it under a tree.

I would probably add some additional tie down ropes. double them up. Stake at angles. Your cheap wire stakes that came with the tent are less than worthless in high wind. You need something more substantial. I like Mil issue stakes but it is a little late for that, some of the big yellow plastic ones from wally world may work. Make sure you get the long ones, you have wind and wet, they will pull out.

what is it with cub parents and Cabin tents?????

Careful of your tent poles. We have wind so hard in our area we have at least one family with a broken pole by the end of a trip!

You have 3 sons going... I say throw 3 kids, plus all gear inside tent. Then it can't blow away , or if it does, its much easier to find all the boys if they are grouped together in one large tent than if they blow away seperately.

Remember Cub camping is FAMILY CAMPING ( caps for emphasis). most parents of Cub age youth and younger want everyone in one tent, hence the 'condos" and "Villa del Mares" I am not going to cram the wife, 3 kids, and gear into my 2 man backpacking tent.

I also recommend that the parents use the seam sealant.
