2 shirts = double the patches?

Recommended Posts

I want to get my son a long sleeve shirt and a short sleeve shirt. Some of the patches I know I will have to double up on, like all of the patches on the shoulders. What about the rank patches? Will I need to double up on those too? or are they just pinned on? I don't want to have to re-sew every time he wears a different shirt.

If the shirts are for identical positions (i.e. Boy Scout youth in a troop) they should have an identical set of insignia. So, yes, you should have multiple rank, troop, world crest, epaulets, etc.

Now the bigger question - should you sew "double" of everything or just pin them on? No. Your son should.

I have tan colored velcro sewn on the left sleeve of all 3 of my shirts below the sewn-on CSP. Then I put heavy duty, self stick velcro on the backs of the unit number and position patches. It sticks real well to the plastic patch backing. The same can work for rank patches as well. Saves having to buy doubles and triples of everything.

Is it even possible to get two or more badges of rank per scout?

My advancement coordinator tells me that he has to fill out paperwork for each badge of rank purchased. Does he just tell the council that the boy is getting two - one for each uniform?
