Replacing/Providing MB Cards, Rank Advancement

Recommended Posts

A young man just recently transferred into my Crew and he's almost Eagle - but you wouldn't think so by reviewing his council computer records.

He has done his Eagle Project. He has most of the merit badges. However, some of the merit badges, going back over two years, were not submitted. His Star rank advancement was not submitted. I got a printout from the council and there were about 5 merit badges submitted, for which he had no cards.

This is my plan of action, you Commissioners out there please provide some feedback.

1 - Submit an advancement report with the merit badges where he has the cards but that have not yet been recorded, making sure to use the original dates. I sign the advancement report.

2 - Provide cards to him from the MBs submitted but that he had not yet received cards. I sign the cards as his current unit leader.

3 - He has the card for Star, which has not been submitted on an advancement form, so I submit a new rank advancement form using the date on his card. I sign the advancement form and get 2 committee members to sign since it requires 2 additional signatures. This is the one I'm most unsure of, but I know he earned Star since he has already earned Life - plus he has the card.

Bac,

Having to deal with this personally, as well as seeing a freind enoucnter the same problem, here is what we did. We used copies of the troop's advancement reports to get the correct dates and resubmitted them to council.

In my case, some of the forms were missing form the troop records, so they used a photocopy my BSHB which had the MBC's signature as well as the BORs signatrures in the advancemetn section.

My troop didn't use blue cards, so the MBC signed in the book.

Yah, sounds fine, bacchus.

This stuff happens all the time, eh? Often gets caught in situations like yours, when a lad transfers to a sharp records-keeping unit from one that was not very fastidious about record-keeping. ;)

Generally da easiest and fastest for the boy is to accept any legit documentation he has (blue cards, white cards, book signoffs, etc.) and then reconcile the council records from those by submitting advancement report forms yourself.

Sometimes yeh can go back to the first troop, but honestly having danced that dance I don't think it's worth it. Like as not you get referred to the new AC, who doesn't know anything, who then points yeh to the former SM, who moved out of town, who refers yeh to the former CC, who doesn't remember but thinks da former AC might know. Of course, when yeh finally locate da former AC, yeh find he's pushing daisies. :p

shortridge,

Not necessarily. I saw some doosies of records when I took over advancement in the Troop I served.

I think three phone calls are in order as bacchus starts doing this: A call to the Staff Adviser for Advancement and Registrar ... they should be on board in short order. One to the DAC, a courtesy, but he might appreciate knowing a unit is not being helpful on the Advancement Method. The last one is a maybe ... the Council Advancement Chair ... that one depends on how much cover bacchus thinks he needs.
