At this time of year, I really appreciate Painting merit badge. I like the idea of using the "harmonizing" color wheel, so the scout who paints the west side of my house uses the same color as the scout who painted the south side and the trim is all white.

 

Now, if any merit badge needed an exemption from the "No more no less" policy, it is Home Repairs. Or maybe they could release new requirements each year inline with the repairs needed around MY house.

 

Further, I would like to propose that Painting AND Home Repairs become Eagle required so they receive the emphasis consistent with Mrs. ASM's sense of urgency with her honeydew list.

I wholeheartedly agree! My house could really use the Home Repair merit badge!

 

 

SMs in need of housesitting can also call on Scouts in need of some hands-on Pets MB work.

 

And don't forget about the potential inherent in Automotive Maintenance, Gardening and Plumbing!

Hey. What about for auto mechanics, adding in a new requirement of:

 

Remove the engine from the chassis. On a test stand, disassemble it to the block. Use micrometers and mic tape to evaluate tolerances. Insert cylinder sleeves and hone as needed. Reassemble using new wear parts. Test the engine on the test stand, then reinstall to the vehicle...

 

Cue the Mamas and the Papas...

I am sitting here laughing as the thought process goes through my mind of having the scouts earn merit badges by completing our honey-do lists. I knoww that there is some legitimate work that can be done but I just thought it was funny.

 

On that note does that mean that I can have a scout balance my checkbook while working on his personal mgt.

 

Maybe do my gardening

 

Fix the electrical in my house (Electricity MB or Electronics MB)

 

Maybe designing my new house (Drafting and Engineering)

I would like to suggest a landscaping merit badge... my grass is getting tall, and the weeds in my ditch are getting out of control.
