Who do you call to get problems addressed on the internet advancement site.

You would think there would be a link somewhere, but it eludes me.

My problem is after I submit advancement on the internet, it remains locked up on the last page which is step 3, for weeks. In fact, mine is still locked there, so I cannot do advancements on the internet. Nobody has been able to help me at council except a toll free number I've had no success with.

The internet advancement is nice, but needs drastic interface improvements.

If you read the instructions it tells you that AFTER you submit the form, and BEFORE you try to exit, you MUST first print a hard copy of the report so that you can collect the required signatures.

This most likely is what is causing your problems, I recommend that you stop and carefully read all the instructions again prior to trying to submit the attendance.

Well, the problem here is I always sign and turn in the Troopmaster copy.

THe advancement report I submit is a direct import from troopmaster. I have never printed the advancment report off the internet submittal and really, the program should not lock me up because I failed to.

But, while typing this up, I went back on site and tried to do the advancement report print again and I get an OK dialog box, so I copied the properties of the link into the browser bar and executed that, finally got the pdf file to come up. Now I am cleared out.

Again, this application needs some work.

Is it really that uncommon for a program to not function correctly when the operator does not input the correct commands as instructed? I don't think so.

Aren't most programs subject to the "garbage in-garbage out" rule?(This message has been edited by Bob White)

Ouch Bob,

First of all the program does not say you MUST print the advancement report for the application to let you continue on.

I know I must of gotten you folks steamed when I submitted the Rules and Regulations question, but there was not ill intentions meant.

All I am saying is the program needs some work and actually, you were the first person to make me think of a way around the problem.

The part you missed was when I said I had to go get the link properties and cut and paste them in to make it work. Selecting the print advancement widget did not work.

So ending question, who do I contact in the future on questions and suggestion enhancements to the Internet Advancement?

"First of all the program does not say you MUST print the advancement report for the application to let you continue on. "

Actually it does. Here is the direct quote from the instruction for submitting the report.

" 2. Click Print the Advancement Report. The advancement report will appear in a separate window as a PDF file. You must have Acrobat Reader in order to view the file. You must print the report before you log out."

IF after reading and following ALL the instructions provided, if the program still does not function correctly for you then your only recourse is the 800 number given you by your council office.

John wote "There should be someone in your Council Service Center who is the designated "go-to" person for ScoutNet apps, including Internet Advancement and Internet re-charter."

I wish!!  I am computer savy but the design of that site leaves a lot to be desiered. Mosts people nneed super simple apps with lots of outs and workarounds.  Most people I have talked to reciently wonder when certain links to Nat'l will become active. Do to the new programming at nat'l they will not. They have to be hand done and out council site is sorly behind. Asking too many computer related questions are our council causes glassy-eye stares. They hire outside firms to do the work (not available for questions).

Expecting average users to understand computer things without detailed simplistice helps is like expecting nature to adjust to humans not humans to nature.

Well Bob, I can see we are not gonna see eye to eye on this one. but the screen says

"Congratulations!

Your Advancement Report has been submitted successfully.

The advancement process is not complete until you complete the following:

1. Print the Advancement Report (which includes the Unit Award Summary).

2. Obtain the appropriate signature(s) for this Advancement Report.

3. Deliver the Advancement Report and your insignia purchase order to the council. Check with your council service center for the current stock numbers and prices and ordering procedures.

Thank you for using Internet Advancement from the Boy Scouts of America."

I click on the Print Advancement Report button and get an Dialog box that says I have to print it before I log out, the report will not be available when you log in again.

After I select "OK" , nothing happens.

So the app is not working correctly. I'll try the 800 number because nobody else has been able to help me.

Thanks FireKat

If it were not for the fact that I am computer savy, I would not have gotten around the problem.

Agree, this is not a user friendly application.

I've been working computer software projects for 20 years and user interface is most of the work.

Anyway, thanks, I'm gonna call monday on the 800 number to see if someone can correct this problem.
