Email updates from camp

Recommended Posts

My son's Scoutmaster sent daily emails to all of the parents whose boys were at summer camp this past week. It was exciting to read the updates and hear about all the fun things they were doing. It also helped put parents' minds at ease that everything was OK. He even listed the boys who received mail that day, so you weren't left wondering "Did my letter get there?" I received a picture of my son heading out on his Wilderness Survival overnight trip, which was a surprise because he wasn't signed up for that merit badge when he left. I guess my son changed his mind once he found out his other friends were signed up for it. Now when my son comes home tonight and I ask him how Scout camp was, I won't just get a "it was fun" response, I'll be able to ask him about specific things that he did which will be a great conversation-starter.

I just came back from Boy Scout summer camp. I posted a few pics on Facebook but that was all. I told all the parents that their scouts are wiped out and not to expect any real conversations for a day. Let them shower, sleep, and do laundry. For our troop summer camp is a taxing experience, physically, mentally, and emotionally. It takes a day or more after camp for the experiences to sink in and for the scouts to understood them.

SM either has a lot of assistance, the troop is truly in he hands of a solid PLC, or he may have OCD and should seek immediate psychiatric attention! ;) I bet posts from the troop scribe would tell a more interesting story. :)

Dear Parents, we are having a great time at camp! Today two of our scouts yelled obscenities at campers passing by our site telling them to "get the F#%+ out", hit them with a broom and even through rocks at them, not sure if it was the same scouts but they also crushed some left over apples and put them in our water cooler. Later this afternoon our SPL and 4 other scouts decided it would be a great idea to have a sword fight with cot end poles. Inexplicably a 1st year clocked the SPL in the back of the head with one. Fortunately he didn't black out and there was no blood but he cried for a good 20 minutes. I was a bit concerned when he kept complaining that his hands were tingling, but all is well the camp doc checked him out and he is back on his feet now. Another scout came down with strep. NEXT DAY, Dear Parents, we are having such a great time at camp this week. We had our OA elections this morning and one scout who has attended 3 Eagle Projects this year and stayed all day helping repackage scouting for food boxes was not voted in, on the bright side the scout with a broom and a colorful vocabulary received overwhelming support. A great year for our Lodge. 2 scouts taking wilderness survival completely forgot to show up for their overnight last night, so they will be getting partials. We have another case of strep today. They boys have completely given up on cooking and are just eating bread and cheese. Good new though, as the older boys finally settled down before 1AM last night. (I thought it best not to send updates)

When I took a bear den to summer camp I let the parents know they would only hear from the nurse if something was bad and I would be texting a group photo midweek. Which I did, as the den was doing a tug of war and laughing.

KDD' date=' are you channeling Allan Sherman? :)
[/quote'] Scouts Honor that is all factual. I left out the part about scout who came up to me and said the boys in their hammocks under the big fly they erected we watching porn. I asked him how he knew that was what they were doing and he described in great detail the sounds he was hearing from the cell phone. I cut him off after about 10 seconds for I am certain an 11 year old talking like that to a adult is a YPT violation. We tried several times stalking the treehuggers but no avail. I was very sleep deprived that week, it is all slowly coming back to me.

Knowing that it was all true, I feel guilty laughing about it, but I can't help it.
