password protected web site...?

Recommended Posts

I would like to set up our Troop web site so our activity schedule and photos are password protected.

Does anyone know how I would go about this?

Is there some kind of software or script I'd need to use, or what?

Thanks!!

Scoutlander.com offer this option. There is a public site that anyone on the web can see, that's where I promote the Troop. Then there is the password protected or private side, every member gets issue an invite with an id and password and that's where you put your calendar, photos and other information you want to keep private or for members only. No html, even the kids(a scout webmaster) can take care of it, easy as 1,2,3... Good luck!

Thanks for the info on this!

I will look at these possible web hosting sites.

However, what I am really looking for some password protection script that someone has had experience with to add to our existing web site.

Most ISPs allow you to have a second http folder for password-protected content, and you set those properties in your "control panel." For example, if your normal web site files were in a http/public_html folder, there might be a http/protected_html folder (or something like that, it depends on the ISP) which allowed protected content. A script is not going to work as well.
