Passing of a hero.

Recommended Posts

The flag is at half-staff for Pearl Harbor Day...there are a lot of last gasp remembrances today. (I saw the White House email at work). My Mom's family worked at Pearl Harbor in 1941 and a whole bunch of 'em were there. Cut the guys (and bodies) out. Mom, little girl, heard the Arizona blow up. So I always remember we would go to church every 12-7.

As for Mr Mandela I wish they didn't sanctify him so much--the reality, flaws and all, are more impressive.

Kinda wrong kinda right

The US Congress, by Public Law 103-308, as amended, has officially designated the seventh day of December of each year as “National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Dayâ€Â.

President Obama and Governor Scott directed the flag of the United States to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the United States and the State flag throughout the State of Florida from sunrise to sunset, on Saturday, December 7, 2013, in commemoration of the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. On this solemn occasion, the nation pays homage to the perseverance and heroism shown by many in the face of extremely overwhelming odds. This holiday allows the nation to commemorate the sacrifices made by the valiant members of the US Armed Forces, as well as to celebrate the victory over the forces of fascism, oppression and isolationism.

So December 7 overlaps and if you don't like it be mad Sunday and Monday.

Nelson Mandela - Gone Home!

"The Scout Movement is a world leader in educating youth. Scouting inspires patriotism, sound moral values, courage, character-building, self-reliance and community awareness. It also motivates our young people to achieve their full potential."

- Nelson Rolihlala Mandela (1918-2013)

South Africa’s anti apartheid icon, Nobel prize laureate and a great supporter of Scouting, Nelson Mandela - passed away on 06 December 2013. Scouts from around the world have received this news with great sadness.

Known dearly as Madiba, Nelson Mandela was the Patron of South Africa Scout Association.

Scott Teare, the Secretary General of WOSM said: “He is and will remain a great inspiration for all Scouts around the world. Today, over 40 million Scouts join the rest of the world in mourning for this great loss and we pray for his soul to rest in peace.â€Â

Nice photo of Mr. Mandela wearing a necker correctly.
