I'd also love to hear a recap from a first-year participant.

I can tell you one thing: If you’re not from that area, you’d better be ready to be HOT! Average daily high for Lafayette in July is 92°F with humidity well above 70%. http://www.city-data.com/top2/c485.html

I grew up in Pensacola – and my parents lived in Louisiana for several years while I was in college – so I’ve spent quite a bit of time in southern Louisiana during the summers. It’s just really, really difficult to be comfortable outside in those conditions. I’m sure you can get used to it eventually, but I never really did (neither did my parents…). These excursions are going to make Florida Sea Base trips seem downright brisk! Be prepared…

Well 100+ days are not Uncommon around here in the Summer. We have had an Unusually Cold July here this year. Wichita Falls has set several National High Temperature Days in Recent Years. Around this time of Year we typically have 100 degree Nights also. I work at the Prison and the Housing Areas can reach 100+ easily.
