Scouting Honor Societies
Over the years there have been many honor societies in Scouting, some of which are still active. This site by the USSSP attempts to describe all of them as well as link to those that have web sites.
Firecrafters Historical Center - On-line
Fircrafters was conceived by Chief Belzer of the then Central Indiana Council in 1920 as an association of honor Scout campers to promote the best values in Scouting among youth. This is a massive & well researched site by the USSSP's Michael Bowman.
Other Honor Societies of Scouting's Past
While just about everyone involved in Scouting knows about the Order of the Arrow, many people don't know much about the "other" honor societies & programs that existed in various scout councils & camps throughout the country. By David L. Eby & Paul Myers
The Pipestone Camp Honor Program
The Buckeye Council's Pipestone Award is unique in Scouting. For over seventy years Scouts of our council camps have earned the right to wear this venerable token. This program is active at the Seven Ranges Scout Reservation.
The Tribe of Gimogash
Gimogash is the oldest known honor scout program. It predated the Order of the Arrow by about one year. It was started on May 19,1914 in Toledo, Ohio by that council's Scout Executive J. St Clair Mendenhall.
Tribe of Mic-O-Say -Pony Express Council
The Tribe of Mic-O-Say is the honor camping society of Camp Geiger, Pony Express Council, Boy Scouts of America. There is only one other camp with a Mic-O-Say program and it is to the south in the Heart of America Council at the Bartle Scout Reservation.
Tribe of Tahquitz
Long Beach Area Council's Camp Tahquitz has developed this honor program. There is no O.A. in this council so this is the only honor society program operating there. Excellent info & historical info is on this new site.
