Besides being a cubmaster, I also sit on our township Board of Education.
In our town, writing to the coach would have no effect as the coach has
little to no leeway in excusing an athelete -- the athelete has to sign an
"athletic contract" which is a letter of understanding about maintaining
academic performance and attendance during the athletic season.
Of course, none of this applies to our recreation programs. If one or more
of you are planning on sending a letter to a school coach, you may want to
check on your board of education policy as well as contacting the coach.
