The instuance of the towing vehicle should cover the trailer while being
towed. As far as theft insurance while stored, homeowner's insurance
would probably cover it if stored in someone's yard or driveway.

I have a single-axle trailer with interior dimensions of 56" x 56" x 100"
(I can carry full sheets of plywood). It has an axle capacity of 3,500#.
It has full-width double doors in the rear. The tires are standard 15"
Chevy tires. I had it custom made by a welding shop in Virginia about 15
years ago. The chasis and structure to support the walls and roof are
steel. It has 2x6 tongue-and-groove flooring and 3/8" plywood shell,
painted inside and out. It requires some maintenance because of the wood
(scraping and painting every few years). Looking back, I'd get a Wells
Cargo or similar trailer of the same size. It would cost a bit more, but
have much less maintenance requirements. It has interior lighting as well
as the standard tail lights and turn signals. As for capacity, it has
been perfectly adequate for hauling gear for a troop of 24. I've also
hauled tons of dirt, rocks, manure, furniture, etc. It is my property --
not the troop's. I pull it with a full-size van.
