Did you ever have one of those moments when you suddenly realized you
needed to add something to a message just as your mail program was
finishing sending it? Well, I just did.
I think one distinction that has to be made is the type of camp we're
talking about having all these adults on. Taking 15 or 20 adults to
summer camp at a council run camp is unnecessary. The more adults you
have in this case, the more likely it will be that one or more of them
will start doing things the youth leaders are supposed to do (warning
against that before camp is fine, but isn't always enough). Taking
that many adults to a unit run summer camp is almost required because
there's no paid staff to provide support. At a unit run summer camp,
these adults will have well defined jobs to do and won't be tempted to
interfere with the youth leaders. At a council run summer camp, there
simply isn't enough for that many adults to do.
