I agree with Jonah. Our Troop Committe set a maximum number of Boys
that we feel we can handle at one time. With this situation, we quite
often have several boys knocking on our doors. Make room for someone
who is gun-ho about Scouts, he will be of more benifit to the Troop as
well.
But don't pull the plug too quickly. Give a youth some time to adjust.
One of our latest Eagle Scouts hated camping when he started. He now
would live in the woods if he could.
It is my assumption that this boy has some affect on the others Boys.
If anyone (youth or adult) has a negative affect on the program, See
Ya! As Spock said "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the
few." You have an entire Troop to look after, you can't spend too much
time on just one youth. Boy Scouting isn't for everyone.
Has anyone ever kicked a Dad out of the unit?
As far as your ASM, keep him around. Who says you have to have a kid in
the Troop. I don't even have children, in fact about half my ASM's
don't have a boy in our Troop and half of those aren't even parents. If
it is fun for him, he will stay, but he should also realize his own son
is his priority.
