Greetings to all
My name is Mike Milinski, I'm a Roundtable Commissioner for the York
District, Pinetree Council, Maine. I have been one for about 6 years and I
have
enjoyed it very much.
A week or so ago, I first came on line briefly telling you about this
idea I had that would include bringing the Junior leaders from different
troops
together at one place and time so they could discuss various concerns THEY
might
have.
Well I'm back to give further details. First off this will in not
take
the place of the PLC, it is not meant to!
How this all happens is actually very simple. There was a need and by
pure luck it has taken off.
What is needed is some junior leaders who are willing to take on a
another meeting, and an adult who will be willing to sit back and LET the
Junior
leaders RUN there meeting.
The meeting itself can be modeled after the adults roundtable or
use the
format that I have used. First we rotate the chairman's position so that
everyone has a taste of the chair. Two, a rough agenda is developed with the
various items that may be talked about that evening with approximate time
frames. (This meeting should not last much more than an hour!!) What items
that
were not covered will be used for the next agenda. Now of course if there
is an
item that all present feel it must be discussed do so. Don't expect this
to fly
smoothly the first couple of meetings. This is where the adult may have to
help
out. He may have to "prime" the pump with open ended questions like what
should
be done if ..... or what would you do if....??? Maybe a scenario may help
ease
things. In other words anything that will help bring out a discussion.
This is
where I am very lucky. Dave W. has a great way with these Junior leaders
and it
really makes a difference.
Now to be very honest this program is not with out it problems, but if
you can have the Junior leaders work out these problems all the better. Or
may
be bring them before the adult roundtable....
No matter, this is just another way of bringing our Junior leaders
to a
place where they can talk with there peers and may be find a better way of
doing
something or prevent themselves from making the same mistake over again.
