FW: Pen Pals for Baden Powell Week

--------- Begin forwarded message ----------

So, please post this on my behalf.

Thank you! ......

INTRODUCTION
-------------------------
First of all, we are having some problems with our internet mail server,
so
if this is the second time you are reading this message, my apologies.

My name is Frank Potter and I am a leader (Kaa, to be precise) with the
#209
Erin Woods Cub Pack here in Calgary, Alberta (Canada). My email address
is:
frank.potter@crha-health.ab.ca . This year our group has decided
to
put an international slant on Baden Powell week this February.

We would like to find a "pen pal" for each one of our Cubs from a former
or
future Olympic city (for those of you who are from Australia, and winter
is
permanently canceled, Calgary hosted the 1988 Winter Olympics). On
February
19, 1997, we will distribute pre-stamped post cards to our boys with the
name and address of these individuals. The boys will write a short note
and
mail them off.

Hopefully, a few long term international friendships can be started, or
at
least a little better understanding of Scouting around the world.

LOGISTICS
-----------------
So how is this going to work you ask? Like this...
> If you have one or more boys interested in this, please send me an
email (noted on the bottom) before February 14, 1997;
> My Cub Pack will select a sufficient number of responses to give
each
one of our boys a pen pal;
> Hopefully, there will be more responses than I have boys. In that
case, I will re-direct the first 500 responses (over the 25 or so we need

for Cub Pack) to each other. In other words, if I get 300 responses, 25
will be used by my Cub Pack and the remaining 275 will get each other's
names.
> Please note that this is a one shot deal, I don't intend to become a

Pen Pal Service. So please don't send me a response after February 14,
1997... or at least until next year...maybe!
> Because of the age of our boys, this offer is open to English
speaking
children between the ages of 8 to 12 or children who are reasonably
proficient in written English and who are younger than 14 years of age.

SECURITY
----------------
The Web can be a big bad place, and who knows who is listening right? To

protect our boys and your children, I would like to complicate this whole

matter just slightly.

The mailing address our boys will be giving as the return address will be

"Care of " a professional in our local Baden Powell House. This way, you

will know that I am legitimate. In return, please do the following from
your end...
> Contact a professional from your local Scouting Association, and
ask
them if they would mind being a mail drop for a little while.
> When you email me an address, provide me with the name of the
Scouting
Professional and the STREET ADDRESS of your Scouting Association or Baden

Powell House. This is the address our boys will write to. This is how I

know you are legitimate.
> Only email responses that meet this requirement will be considered.
All others will deleted without acknowledgment. I am sorry if you live
in
an Olympic City that doesn't have a BP House, but my boys' welfare is too

important me. In addition, I will randomly verify a percentage of these
address from the various reference sources I have.
> If correspondence flourishes, the boys are more than welcome to
exchange the own mailing addresses.

SAMPLE
-------------
Just to recap, please email me the following:

to be re-directed: Yes
