To the list:
On Tuesday the 23rd (which I received in the the Digest on the 25th),
'Settummanque, the Black Eagle' and 'Paul' commented on abbreviations and
putting together a list to post to the archives...it just so happens that I am
nearly finished doing this very thing as one of my "ticket" items. I currently
am using 'FileMakerPro 2.1' (Friends don't let friends do DOS *G*) but I can
export in either 'Tab" or 'Comma' separated text so anyone can import to any
SS or DB program. If those on the list would like to send your submissions to
me at the E-mail address below, I will add yours to mine and post it.
I have corresponded with Major Mike on this matter and his help was
invaluable (Thanks, Mike...Coffee's still on!). I am using "The Words of
Scouting" booklet and style sheet for the standard presentations; for example:
out here in the 'Real' world, we us ASM for Asst. Scoutmaster but, the
'Official' designation is SA. My ACRONYM Dictionary cross-refrences them both.
What I am looking for, to finish up, is any ACRONYM used by other than
BSA. These I will use in my ticket item for diversity illustration, in the
Scouts-L archive post I will include them with their program and country
origin...Please someone from Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Europe give us
in the US the benefit of your differences so we all can learn!! I have already
included "Mug Up" from Canada (What we in BSA call a Cracker Barrel- Light
snacks and something to drink with shared fellowship and friendship). If you
have others, send 'em, if I can, I'll use them. Humor is always appreciated
and will be marked as such.
Send submissions to me, I will have them ready for presentation by the
end of February, if that meets weith the lists approval.(Side Note to Gary
Hendra [MacScouter] I will send you a copy in FMP...R...) Any other
suggestions will be graciously accepted...Ric...
