Cub Scout Wood Badge Course

I am a little confused and hope someone who has gone to this course can
help me out. The thrust of this course (my understanding) is to become a
better trainer. I'm not sure what more it offers over the the "Train the
Trainer" course but that is another subject.
I have put down the down payment ( a part of the $250.00) and am looking
forward to spending about the same in transportation costs. Now I've gotten
my Thanks letter from the region, reminding me of the due date of the
remainder of the money, and providing me a list of the things I need to
bring. Here's my rub - to get "outfitted" in the "recommended minimum" I'm
looking at another $150.00 in uniform parts. Now I grant you a part of that
cost is associated with my better half's unwillingness to remove all the
patches, knots, etc from my cubmaster shirt but this is traing is getting
expensive.
Anyone who has experienced this training: will I feel better about the $'s
after the course or be even more upset? It seems this is money being spent
for the wrong reason.
Thanks,
Arnie Carlsen
