Hi Elizabeth
There are probably quite a few Sea Scout Groups in Sydney. Do you know
where you are going to be based? This will be a factor in where you go.
Sydney on the coast starts north a Narrabeen Lakes and goes south to near
Wollongong. Wollongong is a large city independant of Sydney. To the north
there is Gosford and Newcastle.
Other places to look is the Australian White Pages start at
www.telstra.com.au. If you are coming over mid year then you have plenty of
time, and sending a message to the New South Wales Venturer Council and then
it can be passed on the the Area Venturer Councils and you will get a reply
back. You are probably between 14-18 so that look at Venturer Units. There
are a lot of similarities and differences between the 2 countries, which is
fun to explore.
Also check out the Venturer2000 web site on www.venture2000.com.au, and see
if you are elegible to go, it will be a great event.
I live in Brisbane, so local knowledge of Sydney I do not have but I can help.
For those of you out there the Venture is like a Jamboree but more like a
moot, it starts on January 3 and finishes Jan 12. I am also trying to
encourage my Venturers to enter in the Murray Marathon canoe race, (5 days
404 kilometres) doing it as a relay. This is on Dec 27-31, Yarrawonga to
Swan Hill, a great event.
See ya
Mark
