Boatswain
An easily obtainable source of information on the "Calls" is Boatswain's
Mate Volume 1 (NAVEDTRA 10101 March 1989 0502-LP-213-4700) available at
most Naval Reserve Centers and probably by sweet talking any naval
recruiter with a brain. It describes more calls than you would ever need
("pipe down" however is occasionally needed and could be extremely useful.
If only people would grow to recognize it and obey it. Yeah, dream on).
It also has chapters on marlinespike seamanship and canvas and leather work
which I find more helpful than our manual's brief treatment.
YISS,
Roger Crossland
