Actually, the scholarship Bruce is referring to is the William M. Minto
scholarship available to Sea Scouts Able and above. The scholarship is for the
Summer School at Sea program at Texas A&M University, Galveston (TAMUG). This is
a six hour college credit course in various Freshman courses conducted aboard the
"Texas Clipper" during their 6-8 week summer cruise. The scholarship winner must
apply and receive acceptance at either A&M Main Campus in College Station, Texas
or TAMUG. The courses for study are broader than just Oceanography. My winner
went on to study music after a terrific summer cruise aboard the Clipper. The
value of the scholarship is around $2,300 and the hours of credit are completely
transferrable.
