CURRENT SCOUTS-L SUBSCRIBERS...
Overwhelmed by the flood of e-mail into your inbox every day? We have a solution for you! Did you know that you could set your SCOUTS-L subscription to NO MAIL (see below), which turns off the daily barrage of e-mail from the list? Many people use this feature when they go on vacation, or know that they will be away from the computer for a few days.

READ SCOUTS-L DAILY FROM THE WEB ARCHIVE
Changing your SCOUTS-L subscription to NO MAIL does not remove you from the list... you are still a subscriber and you can still post messages to the group any time, just like normal.

IT'S FEATURE RICH... SORT OR SEARCH
Instead of downloading all those messages each day to your e-mail, visit our SCOUTS-L WEB ARCHIVES once a day, or when ever you feel like it, to read the most current postings. These archives are updated instantly when a new message is posted to the group, and you can sort the messages by author, date, subject or thread. Read SCOUTS-L on your on time, the way you want to read it. Reply to the list, or individually to the person who posted the message. Follow and interesting thread, and ignore the threads you could care less about.

AVOID THE FLOOD OF E-MAIL EACH DAY
Setting your subscription to NO MAIL and using the WEB ARCHIVE takes a huge load off of the SCOUTS-L Servers, because it only has to send a message to the WEB ARCHIVE once, and is saving the time and effort of sending the message out to thousands of users.

And, if you ever decide you want to get a copy of a specific message or a digest by e-mail, you can still request it from the SCOUTS-L E-mail Archives. For information on requesting old messages from the E-MAIL ARCHIVES (not to be confused with the WEB ARCHIVES here on SJ Network), visit the SCOUTS-L Official Home Page.

POSTING A MESSAGE TO SCOUTS-L
You still must be a subscriber to the SCOUTS-L Discussion list in order to post any messages (though it is OK for your subscription to be set to NOMAIL, as described above). To Subscribe to SCOUTS-L (which is ran by volunteers and on a non-SCOUTER.com server), send an e-mail message to LISTSERV@TCUBVM.IS.TCU.EDU with the following line in the body of the message:

SUBSCRIBE SCOUTS-L Your Name       (Type your actual name in place of "Your Name")

The listserver will get your authenticated e-mail address from the header of your message. You will get a confirmation back after you have subscribed. In order to post messages to the discussion list, you will need to do so from the same e-mail address you have subscribed from, and send the message to SCOUTS-L@TCUBVM.IS.TCU.EDU  Your post will be distributed to all of the subscribers of this list and will appear on the SCOUTER.com Web Archives. For more information and instructions on using the actual SCOUTS-L discussion list, please refer to their home page.

TO SET YOUR SCOUTS-L SUBSCRIPTION TO NO MAIL:
Send an e-mail message to LISTSERV@TCUBVM.IS.TCU.EDU from your e-mail address that SCOUTS-L sends your messages to now, with NO SUBJECT LINE and only the following words in the message body:
    SET SCOUTS-L NOMAIL
To reset SCOUTS-L to again send you postings by e-mail, send another message to LISTSERV@TCUBVM.IS.TCU.EDU  with no subject line and only the following words in the message body:
    SET SCOUTS-L MAIL

* A note about message threads on the Web Archive. The archive manager attempts to associate messages into threads based on the subject line. This is not always possible. Especially note that if a thread spans a month, the messages in the second month would not be threaded in. We recommend that you use the subject index (which is the default) for locating topics you are interested in. You may want to look in a previous month if you find an interesting thread to see if it is a continuation.
