Joel, all that I saw of this is the messages actually sent to the list, but
I suspect that you have received some opinionated and strongly worded
comments directly by email.
I never heard of the FRC before, but a bit of poking around at their
web site gives be a pretty good idea of how much I can believe anything
that they say. In general, it pays to be skeptical of anything that you
find on the Internet. Know the source. Combine it with other evidence.
Don't take it at face value with doing your homework.
I do feel that threats to Scouting in the form of reduced giving through
the UW or denial of the use of public resources is a valid topic here, as
long as we can avoid getting caught up in an argument over gay rights, etc.
However, this is a very emotional issue right now, so it is hard to not
go over the line.
At the same time, you were a bit careless in your post. You titled it
"Clinton attacking the BSA?" while the article itself is titled "Clinton
Administration Caught Preparing Attack on Scouts, FRC Reveals." There is
a significant difference between Bill Clinton doing something and a middle
level administrator in the Department of the Interior doing that same
thing. And the body of the article doesn't support the headline in my
opinion.
