L'ers,

A fellow scouter and I were just discussing a business deal, and the topic turned to the recent rash of corporate sponsors jumping ship from the BSA, and the possibility of the United Way doing the same thing,

We came up with this idea:

A lot, if not all local drives allow you to designate your gift to a particular agency. Some, like the one where I work, show a list of agencies which are already participating agencies, and allow you to designate your whole gift to that agency. Here they also allow you to specify another agency (non-profit, etc) which is not listed, if you provide complete contact information about that agency.

Last year I designated my UW gift to my home troop, although our council was listed on the form. I am still waiting to find out from our treasurer if he ever got it.

Anyway, our suggestion is for all scouters who participate in the UW, and others who are asked to donate that they do so, even if the UW drops scouting, but then designate your gift to either your local council or local troop. Encourage others who support scouting, and are not on this list to do the same.

This would be a massive show of support for the BSA, and might have some effect on the way the UW treats scouting.

Just an idea from out in the hills of NC, What say ye L'ers?
