Hey All,

Hmnnnnn, you know sometimes there are great ideas in disguise and
this might be one. What if the boys make the report cards on the troop and
not visa versa? It might be eye-opening to your troop leadership to find out
just what the rank and file are thinking about them and the way they do
their job. Might be an eye opener for the SM too! When was the last time you
formally determined the boy's satisfaction level? How do you know you are
doing your job right other than some fuzzy feeling about where your heart is
at? Every training I have been on staff, I have given out an anonymous
questionnaire to give me insight as to what to change and what to leave
alone. We call it "evaluation" and it is the sixth step of planning (as
taught to us CS Woodbadgers). There can no realistic concept of what you
have/have not accomplished without this simple tool. In a short time you can
move from a subjective view of the situation to a more objective view. We
would never go hiking in unfamiliar territory without a map right? Well our
map consists of the principles of Scouting. Still, how do we negotiate any
map? We start with knowing where our trail head is and what bearings we need
to go on. A good evaluation will provide this for you. It will give you a
realistic of idea where your troop is at and a blueprint for getting it back
(or more firmly) on the Scouting Trail. What questions would YOU want on
that survey???
