I second Dan's comments. This is now my standard underwear during virtually
any outdoor activity. It helps to keep you dry down under and is a lot more
comfortable than mesh.

Subject: BASE LAYER
A recent post by Ron Fox about a Sommers Base trek mentioned the
problems of cotton underwear, and recommended hiking shorts or swim
suits with the built in nylon mesh support, eliminating the need for
underwear. I find the mesh a bit abrasive when in direct contact with
my baby-soft skin, with results similar to "crotch rot." So for
non-swimming activities, I wear non-cotton, perspiration-wicking boxer
briefs (Duofold brand made of Coolmax, purchased from Campmor) under my
nylon hiking shorts or zip-off pants. And I always use anti-fungal
powder to help keep things dry and comfy and keep jock itch at bay.
