I would like to address 2 recent postings that have contained
misinformation:
It was stated in a recent posting that the Valle Vidal is open but that
Philmont is just choosing not to send crews up there. The fact remains
that the entire Kit Carson National Forest is closed. Anyone who sets
foot up
there is subject to a $5,000 fine and 6 months in jail.
A posting yesterday reported the death of a youth from anaphylactic
shock
following a bee sting. The only truth in this report was that there
was,
in fact, a death on Saturday. It was an adult, not a youth. It was a
heart
attack, not a bee sting. The individual was not on a trek. The
official
press release follows:
"On Saturday, June24, 2000 at approximately 4:30 PM, an Oklahoma City
Scouter participating in a Woodbadge pre-course visit to the Philmont
Scout Ranch died from an apparent heart attack while hiking on the
Urraca Trail.
Emergency CPR was administered and Philmont medical staff and the
Cimarron
Ambulance responded to the situation."
We would appreciate it if persons posting to this list would check their
facts before spreading erroneous information.
