Don't know. Sounds like the Boy Scout equivalent of a
"swagger stick."
Trekking poles are a different story. I started using a
pair of adjustable aluminum poles about 4 years ago (since I
got older and heavier:-)
They have made a dramatic difference in wear and tear on the
knees, particularly on the downhills. Biggest noticeable
difference has been absence of shin splints and my calf
muscles don't feel "knotted up" on Monday morning.
