I'd start, as this scouter did, by polling the group. I think I'd also
check with the Western Alaska Council, Anchorage, and the Midnight Sun
Council, Fairbanks, for a "brother" troop. You could check for churches
with sleeping room through various telephone search programs, especialy
if your unit is church affiliated. You could also check with the
military authorities at Elmendorf AFB and Ft. Richardson near Anchorage,
and Eilson AFB near Fairbanks - write the scouting liaison officer c/o
the base commander. There used to be a Navy and Coast Guard base down
the Aleutian Chain as well, Kodiak Island, if memory serves, but this
may have been closed as an economy measure. Stop by your friendly
military recruiters for the latest info and addresses.
