I think that all that stuff would be much more ergonomically carried in a
small fanny pack than on your staff, even if lashed tight to the shaft. What
if you needed to use the staff for crossing a small stream? Would you unload
it, put all the stuff on your head, then reload on the other side <G>?
Besides, I seem to remember this very list of stuff given on a
rec.scouting.usa post about a year ago from someone offering plans to
construct such a thing, with a URL given (no, I didn't bookmark it, but it
comes up on the ng every now and then). I went to look at it and there it
was-- the line, the bandaids, the compass, the fishing line and hooks, the
tubes for matches, the plastic sheeting, the duct tape, the whole list.
