A Big Scouting Hello to All,
My name is Ken Huth, and I am a scoutmaster for a troop of scouts from
the Devereux Foundation. The purpose of the Devereux Foundation is to help
enrich the lives of children, adolescents, and adults with problems
(behaviorally and other) due to mental retardation, developmental delays,
and learning disabilities. We have a presence in our 7 states and are
always striving to make the lives of our kids special.
The reason for this e-mail is to ask for some assistance from the fellow
scouters, scouts, and troops out there. We are a public organization, and
as such have little or NO funding for our scout program. It is hard to find
time to have these kids due fundraising since they are all (97%) without
families or homes.
I have convinced my particular campus to allow us to begin regular troop
meetings with advancements and campouts. We may even get to take 5 kids to
summer camp this year. This will be the first time ever we will have our
scouts go to a non-handicapped summer camp.
The problem is that due to our lack of funding most of these kids will
never have the opportunity to wear a scout uniform or the badges they earn.
Also, they will never really get a true camping experience due to a lack
of equipment.
All I am wondering is that if any of you or your troops are no longer
using equipment, uniforms, or any other scouting items and want to see them
put to good use, they can be graciously donated to our scout program. Any
inquiries can be addressed to me at khuthjr@chesco.com and feel free to
check out or Foundation's website at http://www.devereux.org
As with any donation to a scouting program, they are tax-deductible and
we will be happy to send you a receipt for any items you wish. Thank you
for your time and anticipated co-operation.
Yours In Scouting,
Kenneth C. Huth, Jr.
