Scouter Petey, Julie, and all,
Let me jump in here. Being from Washington, DC, I know a lot of terrific
lawyer/humans. Let me mention three in particular.
The first is a member of our troop committee, Carla Ward. Carla is a
defense attorney in Arlington, VA, and served as a DL and WDL in her son's
cub pack, and is now on our troop committee. Carla has been to training,
goes camping with us all the time, went to summer camp with us last summer,
and will go again this summer (she'll be in charge of our troop at Camp
Olmsted). She also went to summer camp with her son when he was in cubs,
and I believe is going to summer camp with her younger son this year, who
is currently in cubs. A great lady, and we're fortunate to have her with
us!
Another lawyer I want to mention is our district chairman, Pete Straub.
Pete was SM for many years of Troop 129, my old troop's arch rival down the
street at Westminster Presbyterian. He holds the DAM, and is an Eagle
scout. He has served as district chairman the past two years in our new
district. A finer scouter doesn't walk the earth in the Colonial District,
NCAC.
Last but not least, I need to mention my wife. Not only is Barbara a
terrific lawyer (she specializes in taxes, wills, and age discrimination
issues) but is also a terrific spouse and mom as well. She could no doubt
make two or three times the money she makes if she worked fulltime for one
of the large law firms downtown, but instead chooses to work out of our
home in a small private practice so she can be there for the kids when they
come home from school. Barbara is the best thing that ever happened to me,
period, and I love her so much it's scary!
I also know for a fact that there are lawyers on this list, many of whom
might be getting a little tired being bashed for practicing their
profession. We are a nation of laws, after all, and a nation of laws
naturally has lots of lawyers! I wonder how many lawyers we could find in
Cuba or China or Vietnam or North Korea?
So, Scouter Petey, they are out there!
I think all of us might benefit by remembering that one should always be
careful when tossing around stereotypes carelessly...
