Joel, et al: Yes, this is really weird, and I'm sure some of the legal
beagles out there can help me on this. There is some convoluted law
that says basically: if you are going to park your private vehicle on
school (or our) property, you waive the right for unlawful search and
seizure to do so. As I understand it, you park your car on school
property, they can search it without your permission or presence. I bet
this scout didn't think he had anything illegal in his car and just
drove to school, without thinking. As I said earlier, he knew the rules
and forgot to take contraband out of his car. Would any of you taken
known contraband to your place of work if you knew you gave them the
right to search your vehicle when you park on their property? I'd sure
check it out before I went there!
