The Troop I am affiliated with is in a small town. Our district covers
seven counties. Not all Merit Badge Counselors in surrounding areas want
to work with Scouts from other Troops. Some parents do not want to drive
30 miles to 75 miles one way to meet with a MB Counselor. So we have to
draw from our own community which all too often are parents.

Recently we have started passing around a list with every Merit Badge at
parent meetings. To be frank, we get little parent interest in helping.
There are a few parents that have signed up, so if a Scout does not use
his own parent he has to wait till summer camp to earn a Merit Badge.

Has anyone ever tried using an article in the local paper to enlist MB
Counselors?
