In the two Troops with which I have been involved, the scouts usually
used their own personal equipment. The Troops maintained an inventory
of 2 man tents, half a dozen backpacks, some individual cooking gear
for use by new scouts, who might use Troop equipment until they decided
what kind of personal gear they'd buy.
Of course the Troop also owned a trailer, several cast iron dutch ovens
and other cast iron cookware, chuck boxes for each patrol, water coolers,
ice chests, and lots of other items it did not make sense for an individual
to buy.
So, getting back to the original thread about disposition of Troop equipment
when changing CO's (Chartered Organizations), I can see where a Troop
may have considerable property to be concerned about.
