This can be a very fun topic - as long as we discuss it tongue in cheek.
It's part of the stress reduction strategy in our "job" as Scouts to
play the game "Scouts/Parents Say the Darndest Things".

But I hope nobody takes it too seriously that not every parent is as
dedicated to Scouting as others are. I tell the parents in my troop
that Scouting is like a babysitting co-op - we provide the program for
each other. Then I individually ask each parent to help. It takes time
to approach each parent with just the right request.

But don't think less of those who do not help out because we do not know
their secrets. I believe every organization needs a FEW key people to
provide the vision and most of the energy for the rest of the volunteers.
But not every volunteer in the organization needs to be fanatically
dedicated <GRIN>. I also know that many of the parents in my troop are
seriously dedicated to OTHER ministries in the church that sponsors my
troop. We are each blessed with different talents and we can all perform
our duty to God, country, and others through different ways.

And just because I do not know the ways that a parent volunteers in the
community doesn't mean they don't do it. Maybe someone at work looks
down at me for not participating in United Way campaign through the office.
But they don't know that I choose to give significantly elsewhere such
as FOS.
