The desire to participate in pinewood derby was recently cited as a reason to

delay Webelos to Scout crossover. But the Webelos really need to cross over

in the vicinity of February.
<<end quote

This is not necessarily true at all. Why make this assumption? Many, many
packs don't do crossovers until 'way after PWD-time.

>>begin quote

Our district's Pinewood Derby participation criteria avoided this problem by

adding a note to the category definitions:

"The 5th grade Webelos category includes new 5th grade Boy Scouts who

participated with their packs this year. "
<<end quote

No, no, and no. PWD is for CUB SCOUTS. if you are a Boys Socut, you are not a
Cub Scout anymore.

Sounds like another one of those entitlement things--- you know, "I should be
able to participate because I WANT to." Sounds like the adults need to
communicate some more appropriate values to these Scouts. Like, "If you want
to be a Scout, you put Cub Scout things behind you. Your choice."

How dam' important IS PWD to all concerned? More important than a lesson
about growing up and moving on?
