Charles asks about new ways to teach or present merit badges?

h m, m ? Is that really what we should do - Just teach or
present the subject matter - like another class?

OR - do we let the scout try to find out some of the infomation
on his own? Do we suggest places to look (dare I suggest
the internet?) Or do we ask the scout to first SHOW us what
he can do - or tell us what he knows? And then create a plan to
raise the scout up to an appropriate skill level for the
  merit badge in question?

I some times question this - when I see Merit badge Midways
or Merit Badge centered camporees. Or a meritbadge DAY where
300 scouts earn the same badge. Should NOT part of the MB
program be teaching the scout - HOW to learn on thier OWN?
How to do research? Process new information or skills Etc.

Scouter Don
also a merit badge COUNCILOR (not a teacher)
