Hi Everyone-

I have thought about this one long and hard as it has not been unheard
of in these parts either.

My thoughts on "no wings no wheels" runs this direction...

I am not part of Scouting to make boys into Eagles.. I am not here to
make boys into any rank. I am here to help boys realize their potential
in life and grow into men with a strong future. The measure of a Scout
is not what rank he obtains. The measure of a successful program is
what the boy gets out of it. Eagle is an admirable goal and if a boy
should choose to walk that trail, then I encourage him to do so. If he
chooses to start the trail and then turn on the trail to another worthwhile
path, then so be it. I would much rather see the young men that are in
our care obtain life skills and learn the tools to survive in today's society
than have them earn any badge. We have not failed in our program or
as parents if a boy does not obtain the rank of Eagle. Scouting touches
the life of every boy no matter what rank they reach. That is my goal
here.. not to make Eagles out of boys.

I have two boys in Scouting and am equally proud of them at the ranks
that they are currently at. Not because they have earned a rank but
because of who they are. Scouting taught my oldest son the means to
care for his brother when he was having a seizure and save him from a
potentially fatal situation. I am proud of him for this.. not because he
was a Webelos at the time. I am proud of my boys because of what
they have accomplished as individuals. And I am proud to be part of a
organization that teaches our boys the values of doing good turns, being
good citizens and doing what is right.
