"The youth will adapt far faster than the Leader will. An
experienced ASM, preferably a fully trained one, will
serve far better in the ASM-NSP position, IMHO."

How's this for a concept? Get Webelos Den Leaders trained
as Boy Scout Leaders BEFORE they become Asst. Scoutmasters.
Or are Cub Scout Leaders not allowed to attend Boy Scout
training? (Tongue planted firmly in cheek)

As part of the Webelos Scout to Boy Scout progression
program in our district, I encourage Cubmasters to attend
SMF (or whatever we have just changed the name to) and to
ask their Webelos Den Leaders to attend as well. This
really helps everyone understand how the programs are the
same, and different, and how to PREPARE Webelos Scouts to
become Boy SCouts without turning them into "mini-Boy
Scouts" in the process.

I've stated before on this and other lists, that the more
each of us knows about the entire BSA program (Tiger Cubs
through Eagle and beyond) the better job we can do
delivering the promise of Scouting and achieving its aims.

And just because you have a "Trained" strip on your uniform
doesn't mean you can't learn more! That's why I'm attending
Commissioner training for the next two Saturdays.

Yours in ScOUTing,
