Please reply off-line, since I suspect this thread has been talked to
death.
Any recommendations for backpacking stoves for my Troop's use in
California, for occasional winter camping (nothing severe), my criteria
being ease of use, simplicity, reliability, stability, safety, (NOT
necessarily lease cost for fuel or stove, since they are not used more than
30% of the year).
I do not consider it necessary that the scout learn to use liquid fuel
stove systems.
Note that the solid fuel hand warmer pouches can be used to assist some
liquefied fuel systems for winter camping, so that keeps my options open,
as I would have these hand warmers along anyway.
Thanks, Tony Hitchings, ASM T42 San Mateo
P.S. Santa bought me an MSR whisperlite, but I don't consider it a 1st
choice for the scouts.
PPS Althought its a bit $, the Primus LPS looks really nice, wide base,
easy, simple, STABLE, low-temperature, etc.
