Hello Scouters!
One of the earliest fundamental aspects of Scouting was the art of
tracking and stalking. This was discussed by Lord Baden-Powell in "Getting
Good Sport-Life in the Wild" (thanks Lewis!). Here he discusses the
importance of learning to take note of fine details within the environment
and then applying those same skills in every day life.
In this spirit, we are pleased to announce a new Scouting cyber-resource
entitled "TRACKING AND STALKING NORTH AMERICAN WILDLIFE." This resource
offers Scouts and Scouters tips on tracking, identifying the "quarry", and
stalking it. Included are:
- BSA tips on "stalking"
- BSA tips on "tracking"
- Wildlife Hazards for Campers
- Safety in Bear Country
- Mammal data sheets (over 30)
The data sheets are indexed by biological class and order and include
the animal description, animal track (foot-print) images, photos, mass,
length, biomes, status, range, hiker's notes, and when possible, sound
files.
This is a GREAT resource for Merit Badge studies, or for your upcoming 50
miler, or even for your Cub Family Camping experience.

Stop on by!
Yours in Scouting (and tracking!)
