"Is Scouts-L up or down?" seems to be the question asked more on other
forums here lately than any other....

If you receive this posting with Scouts-L's header information, you can be
assured that yes, Scouts-L is up and running. If you didn't receive this
through Scouts-L, please share the following information from our listowner
with others you know whom do subscribe to Scouts-L.

First, this is NOT related in any way to the "Y2K" computer bug, since Texas
Christian University's complete set of servers are Y2K compliant and
therefore the loss of Scouts-L between December 23rd to the present has
NOTHING to do with that computer "glitch" issue.

Here's what Jon told me earlier this past week:

> There appears to be a problem ... but I've been off this week and

> I changed the email delivery machine ... and it is apparently not

(Jon works at TCU and manages all of the servers used by that university!)

I personally wish Jon and his family a very happy and successful New Years
and thank him for his EXTRA WORK on our server. Few of you are aware that
Scouts-L (and E-Scouts) along with some of the archived information over the
years, uses computing facilities at Texas Christian University (TCU), which
is located near Dallas. The servers we use are "spare servers", older
servers as the university uses the newer ones. Jon's been doing a superb
job of maintaining the "old stuff" both for us as well as official backups
to the "big boys and girls" that manages the university's various
information management systems. So, Scouts-L isn't using some "first class,
high-flying system" to send daily messages to you and me by; it isn't
"ancient stuff" either....but periodically when our listserver stops
working, its nothing more than a minor problem which Jon or Kyna can try to
resolve by the start of the next message cycle.

I am sure that once all of the problems are resolved, that Jon will post a
message to let us know that everything's fine.....

Settummanque!
