A matter of size (shirts that is)

I found this on the National Park website. It's always amusing to see how
our government spends our money on studies (a whole topic in itself), but the
findings may tell the reason why I measure 33 at the waist but have to
buy 36 in BSA uniform shorts and I wear a large in most shirts but Ex large
in BSA's.
I found out the hard way once by not trying them on before washing and sewing
the patches on. Someday my son will have nice Adult Large BSA shirt. Maybe
we need to hire the Clemson University's Apparel Research Institute to get to
the nitty gritty of Class A sizes.

Uniform Program Update - Over the years, there have been numerous
observations about the size scales used for National Park Service
uniforms.
Employees have observed that sizes are inconsistent and differ from sizes
found
in their favorite stores. In an effort to correct this situation, an
independent consultant, Clemson University's Apparel Research
Institute, was asked to provide the NPS with a standard sizing scale.
A couple of years ago, Clemson sampled 39 major U.S. manufacturers to
determine a "standard" size scale. The American Society for Testing
and Materials (ASTM) recommends standards for establishing size
scales. All of the surveyed manufacturers were found to have adopted
the ASTM standards, but there were still wide variances in sizing.
Two examples: Male neck sizes varied up to 1 1/2 inches and female
bust sizes varied up to 4 1/2 inches within any single given size.
