It's my understanding that to attend the National Jamboree you must go with
a council. You can attend as a visitor, but can't stay closer than 60
miles (I think) from the event itself if you choose this option.

To go to the National Jamboree with our council, it will cost $2500 per
boy. It's very sad that many boys won't be able to attend because it's so
cost prohibitive. There will be a small contingent that will attend as
visitors only, because it's not a council unit, for a cost of about
$1500. So they'll even miss out on quite a lot. It's too bad that the
National Jamborees are only held on the east coast, as it makes it
impossible for many Scouts on the west coast to be able to attend.
