Shel Dick and a couple other Scouters wrote me privately and asked the
similar question about the Eagle Scout percentages (the percentage of Scouts
whom make Eagle) from my statement:

>Not nationally. The numbers on both "100 Scouts" are based on the BSA's
>actual percentage of Eagle Scouts. Your Council and even your unit may vary
>from those percentages.

Yep. The BSA's Eagle Scout Service and the National Director of Boy Scouting
both have stated at Philmont last summer and during "All Hands" meetings
that the percentage is close to 4 percent now (using 1997 figures). Several
Scouters here on Scouts-L whom were present during the Scoutmaster and
Commissioner sessions at Philmont's Training Center also confirm that they
were told the "percentage" is "closer to 4 percent".

The Eagle Scout Service says it's 3.89 percent in 1997.

>many years ago, when i checked, it had risen to 2.5%, and then approached
>4%. i don't recall it reaching the 6% alleged by the poster - but i still
>believe 2% is low.

The 3.89/4% figure is the current figure that everyone's working off of
Nationally.

Hope this helps out; thanks for asking!
