Aren't there any *current* heroes who made Eagle?
As much as I admire Col. Glenn for his space achievements, these *were*
largely 25 years ago, before today's Scouting-age youth were born. He's
much more a hero to those of us who remember Mercury 7.
Unfortunately, as we've discussed last week, sports is all-consuming; it
doesn't leave you much time for anything else, and certainly not if
you're good enough to go pro. And, equally unfortunately, today's youth
seem to know only sports figures. Name-recognition for any other
activity is virtually non-existent.
But still -- isn't there someone closer their own age who could be
recruited?
